Outpost 42 was constructed some 24 years ago, and is stationed just about the Planet Xia.  Xia is requesting Federation status, and the station is here, not only to facilitate this, but to defend the sector as well.  Outpost 42 is now under the command of Captain Paula Kirk.  She took command of the base from Commodore Kavox Cox who is now the Fleet Commander.  Captain Kirk was the XO of the base before making captain after her first mission.  The captain on various occasions have place her thoughts and personal logs on the computer systems as well as the crew accomplement in the Captain Logs.  Here you can find out what is happening and what has already happened.

Outpost 42 is a place where aliens and human alike can join and discuss various things. The post is also a trading post where traders come to barter for and purchase merchandise.  Many civilians are on the outpost as well as some from the populations of Xia, the planet that is below us.  Since the planet Xia has citizens aboard some serve in liaison positions as well as vendors and other various occupations.  They do not hold official officer ranking, but is still respected by many of the starfleet officers and enlisted personnel.  The Xian populous is here to guarantee that Xia is treated well by Federation employees.

At present, with Starbase 117 being destroyed, Fleet Command has been moved here temporally until other instructions.  Under the new (and hopefully temporary) Fleet Command of Fleet Captain Phelps, all personnel from starbase 117 has been move to outpost 42 for the time being.  Fleet Commander Phelps has taken command of the base under false pretense by the acting President.  Captain Kirk is under protest of this action and will take her base back.  As for now the fleet is in a uproar, with the USS Brooklyn being blown to bits and called traitors for disobeying the order of Fleet Commander Phelps.  Outpost 42 is now in the hot spot, and everyone is watching to see who comes out on top.
